Airbnb must share information with the tax service

The Court of the European Union in Luxembourg ruled that the international network of the Airbnb accommodation booking service must respond to requests from national tax authorities, the court said in a press release.

The Airbnb platform, for a commission, allows you to place online rental offers in various countries of the world.
Earlier, the Irish representative office of Airbnb appealed to the EU court after the Brussels tax office requested data on operations in the Belgian capital for 2017. The company referred to the European law in the field of e-commerce.

However, the EU Court found that the European regulation in the field of e-commerce does not exempt from the need for cooperation with local tax authorities.
"The provision of local legislation obliging the operator to transmit certain data on tourist accommodation facilities is of a fiscal nature, therefore it is an exception to the directive on e—commerce," the court said.
